The Forestry and Logistics Division provides the wood needed by Pulp and Lumber. Pan Pac manages 33,000 hectares of forest, from planting through to harvesting, transport and marketing the logs.

We strive for environmental excellence in forest management. The Company forests have received Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) accredited certification, which means that the forests are managed according to strict environmental, social and economic standards.

Pan Pac is a signatory to the NZ Forest Accord and the Principles for Commercial Plantation Forest Management in New Zealand. These agreements between the major conservation groups and the forest industry ensure the protection of significant indigenous forest.
The Company’s environmental guidelines meet the requirements of these agreements and the Resource Management Act, the Historic Places Act, other relevant legislation and local authority rules.
The environmental impacts of Pan Pac’s forestry operations are monitored voluntarily at a series of sites. Information gained is readily available.

Operational Excellence

Forestry, harvesting and transport operations are carried out by independent contractors with a total workforce of over 400.
All practical steps are taken to protect the safety, well-being and health of our people. All workers are encouraged to adopt "Zero Tolerance" to unsafe work practices. Pan Pac is committed to an alcohol and drug free workplace.
Regular monitoring and reviews ensure contractors are familiar with management requirements and technological or legislative change. Pan Pac is a member of the Log Transport Safety Accord.
