Public Consultation
Pan Pac consults with the public on matters which may impact on them.
When planning an operation, Pan Pac staff consider the possible impact on and need for consultation with neighbours or other stakeholders. The stakeholders most frequently consulted are the tangata whenua, neighbours, roading authorities and the Regional Council. The level and type of consultation varies according to the needs. Consultation may be by individual contact, meetings by invitation or public meetings. Regular six monthly meetings are held with staff of the Regional Council, Hastings and Wairoa District Councils, Transit and the Department of Conservation.
Another example of public consultation is the log truck 0800 number signs inviting members of the public to telephone with compliments or complaints.
Recreational Use of the Forests
Access to the forests is available for recreational or educational purposes so long as public safety, forest security or company operations are not compromised. Activities include hunting, mountain biking, orienteering, motorsports and cultural activities.
To ensure safety a permit is required for access to the forests by the public. Included in the permit are conditions of access, safety messages and hazard warnings.
Public access may be restricted in times of high fire risk, strong winds or when operations are taking place which may be dangerous to the public.
Permits can be obtained directly from our Forest Co-ordinators or from the Forestry & Logistics office at Pan Pac's Whirinaki mill site. All hunting tallies must be reported to the permit issuer. BACK TO TOP OF PAGE |
