What does Pan Pac use?

Logs above 25m are not used.

Logs from the top 18-20 metres of the tree are used in the pulpmill in the production of pulp and woodchips. Click here to find out more about Pan Pac's pulpmill.

Logs below 18m are used in the sawmill in the production of lumber.

Pruned Logs are generally from the first 5 metres of the tree.

Sawlogs are generally sawn between 5 and 18 metres.

Part Pruned logs overlap these two categories and are generally from the first 8 metres of the tree.

Corewood is lumber from the centre of the log and is around 10 years of age (the first 10 rings). This lumber is not as dense as outerwood and is generally used for packaging products.

Outerwood is the newer, younger part of the log. It is more dense and is used for products with a longer life such as furniture and interior framing.
