The role of Pulp is to supply wood chips for the Pulpmill and chip export operations, to manufacture pulp and provide energy for the pulp and lumber operations. The Pulp Division is also responsible for the management of solid waste and liquid effluent.
Whilst pulp is produced primarily for Pan Pac’s Japanese Shareholders, other grades are manufactured for Asian markets with the focus on newsprint and board products.
Fibre Supply
The Fibre Supply Group co-ordinate the delivery of wood resource for pulping and wood chip export operations. Fibre supply includes whole log chipping, chipped residuals from Pan Pac’s Sawmill and purchased chips from other regional sawmills.
The Chipmill manufactures up to 450,000 tonnes of chip per annum from whole logs. These chips are blended with others to minimise pulp quality variation. Critical control elements include monitoring chip age, blending the various supplies and screening to remove oversize chips and fines.
